R.C. Our Lady of China Chapel

1978 - The director of the Catholic Migration and Refugee Office,

              Rev.Monsignor Bevilacqua (now Anthony Cardinal

              Bevilacqua) asked the brothers and priests of the  

              Congregation of St. John the Baptist of China to

              establish a Chinese Catholic Mission Center in

              Brooklyn Diocese.

- The Catholic Chinese Apostolate and Ming Yuan Chinese

    School founded at 92^nd Street, Cathedral Preparatory

    Seminary in Elmhurst New York.

1983 - First Year of Catholic Ming Yuan Chinese School and

             Summer Day Camp moved to Public School 13 Queens.

1985 - Our Lady of China Chapel was officially established by

             Bishop Francis Mugavero, and incorporated in

             New York State.

1987 - First Branch of Ming Yuan Chinese School established in

             Brooklyn at 41^st Street, St. Catherine of Alexandra School. 

             Later, First Year of Summer Camp opened at Brooklyn and

             moved to Public School 105.

1988 - Our Lady of China Chapel purchased a house at 54-09 92^nd

             Street, Elmhurst, NY 11373 to be used as a rectory and

             parish office.

1993 - Our Lady of China Chapel relocated from Cathedral

             Preparatory to St. Paul the Apostle Church, Corona,

             Queens for the celebration of Sunday Masses, and

             parish activities.

1996 - Our Lady of China Chapel began to have Sunday Masses at

             St. Michael Church in Flushing at 3:30 pm on Saturdays.

2000 - Our Lady of China Chapel relocated again from St. Paul the Apostle Church to Our    Lady of Mt. Carmel Chapel in Corona of St. Leo Church.

2001 - CCD Program moved to Our Lady of China Chapel Office at 54-09 92^nd Street, Elmhurst, NY 11373.

2003 - Our Lady of China Chapel and Ming Yuan Chinese School celebrated their 25^th Anniversary at St. Michael Church in Flushing.

2005 - Ming Yuan Chinese School and Summer Day Camp in Brooklyn moved again

  to Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn.

- Our Lady of China Chapel CCD Program moved again to

  Our Lady of Carmel School in Astoria, Queens.

2006 - Our Lady of China Chapel has merged into St. John Vianney

            Catholic Church and celebrated the 1^st Chinese Mass on the

            1st Day of Chinese New Year.

2008 - Our Lady of China Chapel celebrated the 30^th Anniversary at

             their Promised "St. John Vianney Catholic Church".

2009 - Bishop DiMarzio has entrusted the pastoral care of St. John

            Vianney Catholic Church to Little Brothers of St. John

            the Baptist, effective June 30th.
